“So—why didn’t something happen?”
Because of me. Because I let fear make decisions for me. Because I’ve chosen to let the world push me around instead of pushing my way through the world.”
I just finished reading “Again, But Better” by Christine Riccio, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. I mean, it’s not every day you come across a book that’s like a roller coaster ride of emotions, right? So, buckle up!
First off, let me tell you that this book was my first English novel (yeah, I know, I’m late to the party!). I’m not a huge fan of romance or fantasy, but after a reading block, I decided to venture out. And boy, am I glad I did!
“Again, But Better” is basically about Shane, a college student who’s stuck between her parents’ ambitions and her own dreams. I mean, who hasn’t been there, right? She gets a chance to study abroad, lies to her parents (don’t worry, I won’t judge!), and boom! Her journey of self-discovery begins.
Now, here’s the thing – this book has its ups and downs. The college struggles? Totally relatable! Feeling lost, wanting to break free, and becoming a better version of yourself? Yep, been there! But, some parts felt like Christine was just telling me stuff instead of showing me. Like, Shane’s friendships with her flatmates? I wanted to experience that bond, not just hear about it.
And don’t even get me started on the romance! Pilot, the love interest, has a girlfriend (red flag, anyone?), and the whole love triangle thing? It felt forced, like Christine was trying to create drama. But, I gotta admit, those initial flirty conversations between Shane and Pilot? Swoon!
The time travel twist? Yeah, that came out of nowhere! I mean, I love a good plot twist, but this one felt like a missed opportunity. It could’ve been so much deeper!
Despite its flaws, “Again, But Better” has its charm. It’s like Christine took her own life, added some fiction magic, and voilà! Shane, the protagonist, is basically Christine 2.0.
Would I recommend it? Sure! If you’re looking for a light, feel-good story about finding yourself and taking risks, go for it! But if you’re craving something with more depth and smoother romantic twists, you might want to look elsewhere.
